EAST TEXAS MENSA: Meetings

Meet for Dinner at Bennigan's at 6:00 PM - 420 Realtor Ave. off I-30 in Arkansas. (Bennigan’s = 870-773-4648).

Then at 7:30 PM we’ll convoy about 2 miles for dessert, coffee, conversation and "Dixon In China" photos and description at the Karl Bensons, 52 Meadowview Dr., Texarkana 71854. Come see photographs and hear amazing tales of the mysterious orient. Charles Dixon shares his photos and reports on his recent trip to China. See map enclosed.

From I-30 eastbound: Take exit 223 (State Line Ave.) and immediately turn left at the second traffic light onto Realtor Ave. Follow Realtor Ave. around the curve to Bennigan's on the right.

From I-30 westbound: Take exit 1 (Jefferson Ave.), turn left over the Interstate, then immediately turn right on Realtor Ave. at the I-30 Storage Co. Proceed on Realtor Ave. to Bennigan's on the left.

Directions to the Benson's (52 Meadowview Dr., Texarkana, AR, (870)772-6088)):

From I-30 eastbound or westbound: Take exit 1 (Jefferson Ave.) and head south one-half mile to the first traffic light at Arkansas Blvd. Turn left (eastbound) on Arkansas Blvd. and proceed approximately one-half mile to Meadowview Dr. on the right. Meadowview Dr. is a "U-shaped" street which intersects twice with Arkansas Blvd. Turn right at the second Meadowview Dr. sign and 52 is the sixth house on the left. If you take the first Meadowview Dr. sign, don't panic. Just follow Meadowview Dr. around the "U" and 52 will be on the right.

The TAMG meeting dates have been moved to Tuesday night, and the June meeting date is June 21. You are likely to engage in some lively conversation, unbridled humor, some intense discussions on a variety of subjects, and a collection of people you are not likely to find on your travels. Bring the kids, too. We meet at the Golden Corral Restaurant, Loy Lake Road at Highway 82, east of Highway 75, Sherman, 7:00 PM. We can match any vacation story you can recall, from Paris to Paris, from Hugo to The Hague, and from Bells to Bankok.

We provide an opportunity for membership testing every other month. The tests are scheduled for June 25 at Grayson County College. We can test you at the Center for Workplace Learning on campus, located at 6101 Grayson Drive, Denison, Texas. Denison Drive is FM 691, west of Highway 75, half way between Sherman and Denison. The campus is about three miles west from Highway 75 on the north side of the road. The Center for Workplace learning is located on the backside (north) of the campus. We will be there at 1:00 PM, in order that you have some travel time if you need it. Please contact me at roger-powell@sbcglobal.net if you want to test, and I can provide you with more information. We welcome you to participate in our Group, and you are always welcome at our Table, whether you are a member or not. But if you want to test for Mensa membership, please contact me at your earliest so we can make preparations for your testing.

Just a short reminder that National Testing Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 22, 2005. We hope to have something special planned for that day as well. Also, visit our public service web site at texomaland.com for general information concerning our Group.

BYOSteak - starts at 4pm! I have a large grill. I encourage everyone to bring meat to cook and/or a side dish to share; I will furnish refreshments. We have a lake (and a boat), so fishermen should bring their gear if they want to try it out. Meeting after BBQ, then games. I challenge anyone at Backgammon!

Directions to Glenn Smith’s, Golden TX (June 25 meeting)

From I-20 or Hwy 80: -- Hwy 69 exit (north) to Mineola. About 6 miles north of Mineola go west (left) on FM 799 (you will see a sign to Golden). About one mile to Golden, turn right on CR 2943 (across from the Blue Horn Cafe), followed by an immediate left on CR 2944. About one mile - our driveway is on the left, black mailbox #713. (Go through gate, across cattle guard, then ¼ mile to house.)

From Hwy 37 -- About 1-2 miles south of Quitman turn west on FM799. Cross Hwy 69 and follow the directions above.

From Hwy 69 South -- About 1/2 mile after the Alba school turn right on CR2944. Our driveway is about 2 miles on the right (the only black mailbox on the road).
