November 20, 7 p.m. in Tyler: Reptiles as Pets?
Please join us at my office in Tyler to meet some of the strange and scaly animals that live with my coworker, Rick Ott. Rick is a fisheries biologist with Texas Parks and. Wildlife, but has a soft spot in his heart for snakes, lizards, and iguanas. According to Rick, reptiles make fun, easy to keep pets. He will be showing off his more bizarre reptiles and answering questions about how they live and how to keep one as a pet. As usual, spouses, friends, and family are welcome at the meeting. The Parks and Wildlife office is on the southeast side of Tyler, outside the loop (see map below). From Tyler: turn off Loop 323 onto Spur 248 (there is a green sign directing you to the TPW "Management and Research Station" here). Go past U.T. Tyler and the DPS office. Turn right (south) on FM 848 (there is another green sign here). The facility is about one-half mile on your right. The third gate will be open and I will put a neon-colored poster board saying "Mensa" there. Enter the gate, drive past the house and other small buildings until the road curves around to a small parking lot behind the large brick building. Park and come in! From the east or southeast, you can turn onto Spur 248 from Hwy. 64 (there is a green sign there), then turn left on FM 848 and proceed. Call me at 509-1414 if you have any questions, and call me at the office (566-2162) beginning at 6:00 p.m. on the 20th if you need additional directions.
As usual there will be plenty of snacks at the meeting, and time to talk and plan future activities of East Texas Mensa, especially Tyler-area members.
